# Wispr Flow review

Two tools in one Mac app: the fastest cross-app dictation you can buy, plus a genuinely good bot-free meeting notetaker that captures the whole conversation and names every speaker. Cloud-reliant, and the Notetaker is Mac-only.

## The take

- **Great for:** Founders and reps who **draft all day across Slack, email, docs, and AI chat** and also want meeting notes **without a bot showing up in the call**.
- **The catch:** **The Notetaker is Mac-only**, dictation is cloud-only and reads your active window, Windows is heavy and flaky, and Trustpilot flags reliability slipping after the trial.
- **Bottom line:** On a Mac it replaces two subscriptions at once, your dictation tool and your Granola-style notetaker. If you need offline dictation or run mainly on Windows, look elsewhere.

## Specs

- **Starting price:** $15/user/mo Pro ($12/user/mo billed annually)
- **Free tier:** Yes (2,000 words/week desktop, 1,000 iPhone, unlimited Android; Notetaker included)
- **Pricing model:** Per seat, monthly or annual (20% off); free tier metered by words
- **Best for:** Mac users who want dictation everywhere and bot-free meeting notes in one app
- **Watch out for:** Notetaker is Mac-only; dictation is cloud-only with active-window capture; heavy and flaky on Windows

## What you're actually getting

Wispr Flow is really **two products sharing one Mac app**, and most reviews only cover the first one.
The first is **voice dictation that works inside every app on your machine.** You hold a hotkey, speak, and it drops polished, formatted text straight into Slack, email, Google Docs, ChatGPT, or wherever your cursor sits. The difference from your OS dictation is the **AI cleanup**: it strips filler, fixes grammar, and matches tone to the app, so a Slack message reads casual and an email reads professional without you editing. It handles **100+ languages** and technical terms, and it runs on Mac, Windows, iOS, and Android on one account.
The second, and the one people miss, is the **Notetaker: a full bot-free meeting recorder.** It captures the meeting audio **locally from your Mac**, so **no bot ever joins the call** and there is no link to paste or integration to wire up. It works on Zoom, Google Meet, Teams, Slack huddles, Discord, or any call in your browser, and because it listens through the mic it also covers **in-person meetings, interviews, and coffee chats.** It **starts automatically**, catches back-to-backs and calls that were never on your calendar, and labels each line with the actual person's name using your calendar invite, a personal dictionary, and conversational context. If a name is ever wrong, one click fixes it across the whole transcript. That is the same job Granola and Fathom do, done without a visible bot, plus all-day dictation the others do not touch.

## Where it earns its keep

For people who **write for a living, the dictation is genuinely faster.** Reviewers report going from ~90 words a minute typing to 150-175 dictating, and one independent tester dictated 182,718 words across 36 apps before writing his verdict. Because it types wherever your cursor is, there is nothing to copy out of a separate window, which is why daily users say they stop noticing it.
The **Notetaker's edge is that nothing announces itself in the room.** No bot slides into the participant list, so it does not change the tone of a sales call or a candidate interview, and it captures conversations a bot-based tool simply cannot reach, the hallway follow-up, the in-person pitch, the call someone started off-calendar. Speaker-by-name transcripts mean the follow-up email actually knows who committed to what.
**Doing both jobs in one app is the real value.** On a Mac, Wispr can retire both your dictation tool and your standalone notetaker, on one per-seat price, and **compliance is unusually solid for a consumer-grade tool**: SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001, and HIPAA-ready dictation ship on every tier including free, with SSO, audit logs, and org-wide HIPAA on enterprise.

## Where it'll bite you

**The Notetaker is Mac-only.** If your team is on Windows, the headline feature is simply not available to them, and that is the single biggest reason it may not fit a mixed-OS GTM org.
**Because no bot appears, consent is on you.** Wispr captures audio locally without sending participants the automatic 'recording is on' notice a bot-based tool triggers, so you are responsible for telling everyone before you start, and recording-consent law varies by state and country. Audio is encrypted and stored only temporarily on your device (and in some cases secure cloud) before it is auto-deleted; Wispr says it does not build voiceprints and does not train on your content without consent.
**Dictation is cloud-only and reads your screen**, capturing the active window to format contextually, so air-gapped or strict-privacy teams should look at an on-device tool instead. And **Windows is the weak build**: reviewers report ~800 MB idle RAM, 8-10 second startup, target apps freezing, and crashes on the Microsoft Store version. Watch the trust gap too, G2 sits high on a tiny sample while **Trustpilot is 2.7/5 across 39 reviews**, with the recurring complaint that it works great in the trial, then reliability slips after you pay.

## What it costs, really

**Free is real, not a trial**: 2,000 words a week on desktop, 1,000 on iPhone, unlimited on Android, with 100+ languages and the **Mac Notetaker included**. That is enough to test both the dictation and the meeting notes against how you actually work.
**Pro is $15/user/month, or $12 billed annually** (a 20% cut), and removes the word cap while adding advanced models, extended meeting retention, and priority support. Students and educators get 50% off Pro.
**Enterprise starts at $23/user/month ($18 annually)** and adds SSO/SAML, directory provisioning, org-wide HIPAA enforcement, audit logs, and a dedicated CSM. Pricing is per seat, so if you are replacing both a dictation subscription and a notetaker subscription, compare it against the two tools it retires, not against dictation alone.

## Reach for it / skip it

- **Reach for it if:** Mac-based founders, sellers, and knowledge workers who draft heavily across many apps and want bot-free meeting notes with named speakers in the same tool.
- **Skip it if:** Your team runs mainly on Windows (the Notetaker is Mac-only), you need offline or on-device dictation, or you cannot allow active-window screen-context capture to the cloud.

## What real users said

- "The ability to speak naturally while walking or pacing around my office has transformed my writing process. I can capture ideas immediately without losing momentum." -- Zachary Proser, zackproser.com
- "Dictating a first draft and editing it down is materially faster than typing one." -- Malika Malik, Product Hunt
- "Wispr Flow is really as effective as you imagine it could be. It just makes the whole process noticeably faster." -- Debray Mikael, Product Hunt
- "Support and reliability complaints are harder to ignore on Trustpilot, especially if you rely on software that needs to work every day." -- Filip Konecny, filipkonecny.com
