# Granola review

The meeting notepad that stays out of your call, worth it for people who already take notes and hate recording bots.

## The take

- **Great for:** Founders, execs, consultants, and sales reps in **back-to-back external meetings** who type their own notes and want AI to clean them up after.
- **The catch:** **No speaker diarization on desktop group calls**, and summaries drift on dense technical conversations, so you read every note before forwarding it.
- **Bottom line:** Reach for it when **discretion and your own notes** are the point. If you need who-said-what transcripts of group calls, pick Fireflies or Otter.ai.

## Specs

- **Starting price:** $14/user/month (Business)
- **Free tier:** Yes (Basic, 30-day note history only)
- **Pricing model:** Per seat, monthly only, no annual discount
- **Best for:** Meeting-heavy founders, execs, consultants, sales
- **Key integrations:** Notion, Slack, HubSpot, Zapier, Claude/ChatGPT via MCP
- **Watch out for:** No speaker attribution in group calls; weak on technical talks

## What you're actually getting

Granola is an **AI notepad for back-to-back meeting days**. It taps your computer's audio in the background while you type rough notes, then merges the transcript with what you wrote to produce a structured summary the moment the call ends.
The defining choice is that **no bot joins the meeting.** No "Granola Notetaker has joined" banner, no awkward consent moment with a client who never invited a robot. To everyone else you look like someone taking notes on a laptop.
It runs on Mac, Windows, iOS, Android, and Apple Watch, and works with Zoom, Google Meet, Teams, Webex, and Slack Huddles. There is **no web app**; you install a client or you do not use it.

## Where it earns its keep

It shines on the calls it was built for: **sales calls, one-on-ones, status updates, customer kickoffs.** Anything with a clear agenda and a couple of voices gets a clean summary with decisions and action items pulled out.
The **note-merge model** is the real edge. Because your typed notes are the spine, the summary reflects what you flagged during the call, with the transcript filling the gaps. You always know which parts of the note started as your own thinking.
The **MCP hook** on Business is the forward-looking piece. Connect Granola to Claude, ChatGPT, or Cursor and your meeting context becomes queryable across tools, so "what did I promise this week" gets a real answer.

## Where it'll bite you

**Group calls lose speaker attribution.** Past about three participants on desktop, the transcript stops reliably telling you who said what. G2 reviewers in 2026 flag name accuracy and voices blurring together, so for hiring loops or sales handoffs the notes are not safe to forward unchecked.
**Technical conversations break the summary.** Hands-on reviewers report dense technical discussions producing shallow or subtly wrong summaries. One long-term user logs hallucinations roughly twice a month. Read every summary before it leaves your screen.
**The free tier is a tease.** Basic caps history at a rolling 30 days and locks Slack as the only integration, so you hit the wall fast. EU data residency is Enterprise-only, and shared notes are link-viewable by default, so flip that setting for anything sensitive.

## What it costs, really

Three tiers, **monthly only, no annual discount** (unusual for the category). Basic is free with a 30-day history cap. **Business is $14/user/month** and is where most paying users land, with unlimited history, the full integration set, and MCP included. **Enterprise starts at $35/user/month** for SSO, admin controls, and org-wide retention.
The number that matters is $14, not the older $18 you may see in old posts. Granola retired its single-user Pro tier in the February 2026 rebrand and dropped Business to $14, so price any comparison against the current figure. Pricing is per seat with no participant charges, so a five-person team on Business is $70 a month flat.

## Reach for it / skip it

- **Reach for it if:** Meeting-heavy founders, execs, consultants, and sales reps who already take their own notes and want AI to clean them up without a bot in the room.
- **Skip it if:** You need speaker-attributed transcripts of group calls or reliable summaries of dense technical meetings. Fireflies or Otter.ai handle the first; for the second, keep taking your own notes.

## What real users said

- "It records the conversation and turns it into readable notes, which is awesome. I'd love the ability to create a note and only start recording when I'm ready. There have also been times when something goes wrong and you lose the whole recording, instead of being able to simply try again." -- Shui H., G2
- "Background without joining as a bot or recording audio means I can actually be present in conversations. No awkward "there's a bot in this call" energy. The summaries it produces are actually good, not just a raw transcript dump, but key insights and actions. It's become one of those tools that delivers every time." -- Aprielle D., G2
- "Not having a bot join the call means there's zero awkwardness. It captures everything quietly in the background and then delivers clean summaries and clear action items, without interrupting the conversation or breaking the flow. Still maturing on integrations; a richer connection with project management tools would make post-meeting workflows even smoother." -- Alessandro O., G2
- "I really find Granola extremely easy to use, especially with its connection with Google and Zoom. The fact that there are no manual steps involved and I can just jump right into a meeting is a huge plus. Granola takes a full transcript and analyzes it, making it easy for me to reference at any point in its library." -- David T., G2
