Frase

SEO and GEO content platform that researches, writes, optimizes, and tracks content for both Google rankings and AI answer-engine citations.

Last updated August 23, 2026
The take

The best content brief builder in the category, paired with a GEO tracker and a writing engine that still needs a human at the wheel.

Great for

Content teams and SEO agencies who need SERP-driven briefs in minutes and want research, optimization, and AI-visibility tracking in one subscription.

The catch

The AI writer is mediocre. Briefs are best-in-class, but the drafts need heavy editing. Billing and cancellation complaints also recur across Trustpilot reviews.

Bottom line

Reach for it when briefing is the bottleneck and you have writers who can turn a solid outline into a good article. Skip it if you need a tool that writes publishable drafts on its own.

What you're actually getting

Frase is a content workflow platform built around one core loop: research, write, optimize, publish, monitor, fix. Drop a keyword and it pulls the top 20 Google results, scrapes their headings and topics, and builds a structured brief from what is actually ranking.

The editor scores your draft in real time against both SEO and GEO, meaning Google ranking factors and AI answer-engine citability, side by side. A single score tells you if the page is built to rank and to be quoted by ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, or Gemini.

The January 2026 rebuild added an AI Agent with 80-plus skills that chains multi-step workflows from a single instruction, plus monitoring that watches live pages for ranking decay and auto-drafts fixes. The platform publishes to WordPress, Webflow, Sanity, Wix, or its own FraseCMS.

Where it earns its keep

The content brief engine is the reason teams stay. Independent reviewers consistently call the research and briefing side best-in-class, and building the brief from what is actually ranking surfaces topic gaps that even experienced SEO writers miss.

The dual SEO plus GEO scoring is the differentiator in 2026. You optimize one draft for both traditional search and AI answer engines, and the GEO score names specific changes that make your page more citable. That collapses two subscriptions into one workflow for teams chasing both Google rankings and AI citations.

G2 sits at 4.8 out of 5, with users consistently praising research speed, brief quality, and the all-in-one loop of researching, writing, optimizing, and publishing in one place.

Where it'll bite you

The AI writer is the weakest link. Drafts read as generic and need significant human editing before they are publishable. Multiple independent reviewers and Reddit users converge on the same advice: use Frase for research and briefs, write the actual prose elsewhere or edit heavily.

Billing friction recurs. Trustpilot sits at 1.3 out of 5 across 52 reviews, driven by cancellation disputes, auto-renewal catches, and refund complaints. Set a calendar reminder before your trial ends and read the cancellation terms before committing.

The Starter plan is tight. Ten articles a month, one seat, one site. A second site pushes you to Professional at $129, a 2.6x jump with no intermediate step. The article cap on Starter stops cold at the limit, no overage option, so a busy month means upgrading or waiting.

Frase has run a spectacularly-cowardly rug pull that included a strategic, cynical shutting down of their user Facebook group just prior to the news of V2 being released. No warning, no transition plan, no porting of LTDs, just... 'whoosh'.

What it costs, really

Starter is $49 a month ($39 annual) for 10 articles, 1 seat, and 1 site. Professional is $129 a month ($103 annual) for 40 articles, 3 seats, and 5 sites. Scale is $299 a month ($239 annual) for 100 articles, 5 seats, and 10 sites. Enterprise is custom. Extra seats run $29 each on Professional and up.

The sticker price is predictable. What inflates the bill is outgrowing your tier mid-month. Starter holds at its limit with no overage option. Professional and Scale offer pay-as-you-go overages at $4 to $5 per extra article, off by default. Annual billing saves about 20 percent, and the Trustpilot record on cancellations makes that commitment worth weighing carefully.

Frase decided to repackaged its plaform and called v2, dropped some features, added another and created a new workflow based on AI (that was present in V1). And like everyone else, they're addind a "helper". Althought overall Frase V2 has LESS features. Thety also took the opporutnity to start dropping the LTD users, I've seen this before. "no worries, you'll keep access to Frase V1", which basically means, LTD users will keep access to a platform they already commited not to update. Frase V2 limits the number of domains, and the option to have more than one domain starts at $129/month.
