Framer is a design-first website builder with a canvas that feels like Figma. You lay out pages visually, set breakpoints for responsive, and publish to Framer's hosting without touching code.
The AI layer is called Wireframer. Describe a page in plain language and it returns a full responsive layout in under a minute, dropped onto the canvas as editable layers you then refine by hand.
It also ships a real CMS, SEO defaults, and AI agents that update copy, build sections, and migrate sites from WordPress or Webflow. External agents like Claude, Cursor, and Codex can connect to your project.
Framer is a designer's dream. I can create any webpage exactly how I want it without needing a pro developer, which is perfect for someone like me who is a designer and a writer. I love how easily Framer connects to many tools I use, and I can even embed our own solution onto my website without any problems.
Where it earns its keep
The sweet spot is marketing sites and landing pages. Reviewers report shipping a polished landing page in 2 to 3 hours, where the same build in Webflow took 6.
It earns its place for designers who publish for clients. Clients edit CMS text without breaking the layout, and the design-to-publish loop cuts out the developer handoff.
The animation and interaction system is the part competitors still trail. Hover states, scroll triggers, and micro-interactions are first-class, and the output looks hand-coded.
The biggest win is that I can design and publish from the same canvas, so there's no handoff to a developer and no second tool to learn. The interface feels like Figma, which made it easy to pick up, and breakpoints are visual, so responsive design is much quicker than writing media queries.
Where it'll bite you
No code export is the structural trap. Your site is locked to Framer's hosting, so a future price increase or policy change leaves a full rebuild as the only exit. G2 reviewers call this out directly.
The CMS hits a ceiling fast. Pro caps you at 10 collections and 2,500 items, and Basic gives you 2. Content-heavy sites, directories, and stores push you toward Webflow or WordPress.
Seats and add-ons stack the bill. Every extra editor is $20 a month, A/B testing is a $50 add-on, and localization is $20 per locale. A small team lands closer to Pro-plus-add-ons than the sticker $30.
I HATE the hutzpa of charging nearly TWICE as much for monthly rather than annual fees. Such high costs combined with the fact that you can't easily EXPORT = unfair vendor lockin.
What it costs, really
Free is genuinely usable: 500 AI credits a day, 10 CMS collections, and live hosting on a Framer subdomain. Basic is $10/mo with a custom domain on annual, 2 CMS collections, and 50 GB bandwidth.
Pro at $30/mo is where real sites land: 10 CMS collections, 150 pages, staging, and branching. The number that bites is $20 per extra editor, so a 3-person team is really paying $70 before any add-ons.
What I like most about Framer is how quickly you can go from idea to a polished, live website. The interaction and animation capabilities are incredibly smooth, and it's one of the few tools where the final output actually feels production-quality without needing a developer.
Framer has great visual design features, and it's really easy to add animations, offers seamless collaboration and ultra fast publishing capabilities. It advance feature is very tricky we have to learn it from scratch, pricing is not okk according to me.
