AthenaHQ
Track and act on AI search
The most action-oriented GEO platform in 2026, worth the price only if someone in-house will run the playbook it writes.
Teams that want tracking plus action. The Action Center turns visibility gaps into ranked content tasks with evidence attached.
Credit-based pricing burns fast and the best features, the ACE Citation Engine, multi-region tracking, and SSO, are Enterprise-only. Starter and Enterprise are meaningfully different products.
Reach for it when you need someone to act on AI visibility data. If you only need monitoring, cheaper flat-rate trackers do the same job without the credit meter.
What you're actually getting
AthenaHQ is a GEO platform built by ex-Google Search and DeepMind engineers, backed by Y Combinator. It tracks how your brand appears across nine AI engines, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, Gemini, Claude, Copilot, and Grok, then turns gaps into action items.
The product runs three loops. A monitoring loop that watches AI responses across engines, a diagnostic loop that maps citations and competitor shifts, and an Action Center that ranks fixes by impact and re-tests them after you act.
The free Essential tier gives you 300 credits across 5 models to test the waters. Starter at $295/month opens all nine engines, the Action Center, and content optimization. Enterprise adds the ACE Citation Engine, multi-region tracking, SSO, and BI connectors, but you will need to talk to sales for a price.
It tracks where we show up across ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, and Claude without an add-on fee. With Semrush, AI visibility is a $99/month bolt-on on top of an already expensive plan. AthenaHQ is built around AI citations from day one, and you can feel the difference in how the product is designed.
Where it earns its keep
The Action Center is the real differentiator. Other tools leave you with a dashboard and a shrug. AthenaHQ tells you which content to create or update, with context on why it matters, and rechecks after you ship the change.
Citation source mapping earns its place too. Instead of chasing 200 random publications, you get a targeted list of the 15 domains that actually shape AI answers in your category. The work still needs a person to do it, but the target is finally right.
For e-commerce and DTC brands, the Shopify and GA4 integrations close the loop between AI visibility and revenue. You can trace citations through to actual sales, which makes the quarterly budget conversation a lot easier.
At two other tools in this space, support was either dismissive or just slow. One blamed us for every problem. The other left tickets open for days. AthenaHQ responds same day. When we had a tracking discrepancy in week two, someone got on a call with us, found the issue, and fixed it.
Where it'll bite you
The credit model is the first trap. One credit equals one AI response. Track three prompts across five engines daily and you are at 450 credits a month before adding competitors or regions. Several reviewers describe burning a month of allocation in the first week.
Enterprise-gating is the second. The ACE Citation Engine, the feature most reviewers point to as the reason to pick AthenaHQ, is locked behind custom pricing. Multi-region tracking, SSO, BI connectors, and the Advanced Content Optimization Agent are all Enterprise-only. What Starter actually ships is meaningfully smaller than the marketing suggests.
Time-to-impact is the third. The platform tells you where you stand. It does not write the content, do the outreach, or assemble the Monday board pack. Those jobs go back to your team, the same team that bought the platform to save time. Attribution data is directional, not accounting-grade.
We had really good citations across several AIs then suddenly one day our citations went from 70% to 0%. Anyone know why this happened? It has to be a mistake right?
What it costs, really
The Essential tier is free with 300 credits, about $25 worth, across 5 AI models. It is enough to test the product on your own brand before paying.
Starter is $295/month ($245/month billed annually) with 3,600 credits plus $300 in free credit, nine models, and the Action Center. API access costs extra as a paid add-on. The first month is discounted to $95.
Enterprise is custom, with third-party estimates starting around $2,000/month. This is where the ACE Citation Engine, multi-region tracking, SSO, and BI integrations live.
The real bill rides on how hard you monitor. Overage credits run about $0.08 each. An analyst with a curious afternoon can quietly double your monthly spend, so set monitoring cadence before you set the budget.
I like the convenient out-of-the-box reports AthenaHQ provides, making analytics more manageable from the start. Setting it up was straightforward, especially when adding prompts and tracking. I find that there are some features that require more work to set up, which I haven't completed yet. Additionally, I would like more visibility on prompt volume data.
The per-seat pricing adds up at our team size. We're mid-market so it's workable, but a small team would feel it before they've had time to prove ROI. A lighter starter tier would make it easier to get buy-in from budget-conscious managers.
